CWA Projects for 2008

The following projects for the Committee on Women's Activities Department are for the 2006-2007 Grange Year.
Monetary Donations:

Connecticut Granger Trust Fund
Connecticut State Grange Student Loan Fund
Camp Berger Maintenance Fund

ALL MONETARY DONATIONS may be combined in one check with notations as to disbursements and made out to CONNECTICUT STATE GRANGE and sent to the State Secretary, 769 Hebron Ave., P.O. Box 6517, Glastonbury, CT 06033.
Covenant To Care Project:

Our project for the year is to work with Covenant to Care, a statewide organization supported by many churches and civic groups as well as individuals, in helping provide THANKSGIVING DINNERS FOR NEEDY FAMILIES.

We hope each Grange (or two or more Granges working together) will help with this good cause. Directions for preparing the THANKSGIVING DINNER BAG may be obtained from the State Committee, Pomona WA Chairmen or Subordinate committees.

Covenant to Care, Inc. (CTC) is dedicated to improving the lives of Connecticut's abused and neglected children through the acquisition and distribution of community resources, mentoring, and foster and adoptive family recruitment.

Altogether, CTC serves over 30,000 children and youth annually. Many of the children and youth CTC serves suffer from abuse, neglect, impoverishment, emotional distress, homelessness, or are at risk. Others are in need of foster and adoptive care, or are in foster and receiving homes, and independent living centers.

Information and additional details may be obtained from any CWA person.

Our Work With Foster Families:

For our project with Foster kids this year, we are giving you an opportunity to repeat any of the projects selected as the most popular of past years. We are calling it “A Symphony of Selections.”

You may make (or purchase) any of the following:

  • Comfy Covers
  • Memory Books
  • Gift Cards for Kids
  • Christmas Stockings

You may do any of the above or a combination of them. You are NOT expected to do all of them. You may select the things you would like to make from the items that have been popular in the past.
We may plan to share the Christmas Stockings with both Foster Families and Covenant to Care if there are enough to go around.

There is no cash donation requested through CWA for this year.

Instructions for making Memory Books may be obtained from any CWA person. For more information, CLICK HERE.

New England Grange Building Country Store and Boutique:

We are very pleased with the response to the request for handmade items to be sold in the Grange Building at the Big E. Now we ask you to “do it again” for the 2008 Expo. Any kind of item is welcome as long as it is handmade. We are NOT allowed to sell commercial items in the boutique.

Junior Program:

Nifty Needles is a special project or class we offer to the Juniors. This is in conjunction with our Needlework contest. The contestants may make a Christmas item using ANY KIND OF NEEDLE, knitting, crochet hook, etc.

Juniors may enter the baking contest using the same recipe as adults. ALL JUNIOR ENTRIES IN ANY OF THE CONTESTS MAY BE SENT TO THE STATE JUDGING ON “LET’S CELEBRATE” DAY.
Prizes are the same as in the adult contests.

A chart will be given to each Junior Grange, Subordinate Committee and Pomona Committee as a guide for the year. An AWARD OF EXCELLENCE will be given to each group meeting the requirements listed.

Let's all work together in HARMONY. With your help we can enjoy another year of good work as the MELODY LINGERS ON!
