PRESS RELEASE: DECEMBER 2003
--
Connecticut’s
former 63rd District Representative, F. Philip Prelli,
has been elected Treasurer of the National Grange.
The election took place at the 137th National Grange
Convention held recently in Burlington, Vermont. Mr.
Prelli left the State Legislature in 2001 after 12
years due to his anticipated election in 2002 to President
of the Connecticut State Grange, an office he will
continue to hold.
The
election marks the first time in over 20 years that
a member from Connecticut has been elected to National
office. Mr. Prelli is a member of Riverton Grange
No. 169 and Mountain County Pomona Grange No. 4 where
he began his journey through the offices of the Grange
serving both as President.
Mr.
Prelli comes from a strong Grange family that has
served, and continues to serve, at all levels of the
Grange. In fact, Mr. Prelli’s father, Frank,
served as President of the Connecticut State Grange
in the late 1970s.
Mr.
Prelli resides in Barkhamsted with his wife Maureen.
They have two married daughters, Jennifer and Marie.
He is also a partner in the Tangarone and Prelli Insurance
Agency of Winsted.
Founded
in 1867, the National Grange is the nation's oldest
general agricultural and rural advocacy organization.
It has grassroots units in 3,600 local communities
in 39 states, with nearly 300,000 members. It serves
farm, non-farm, rural families and communities on
a wide variety of economic, educational, legislative
and family issues.
