| SEPTEMBER 2, 2010 -- The following is a contest being sponsored by the New England Grange Building Trustees. Each state in the Northeast Region will have one float representing them in the Big E parade on Grange Day at the Big E on Sept. 26.
To decide Connecticut's entry in the parade contest, there will be a judging of all Connecticut entries. Guide lines for floats for Grange day at the Big E: • One float entry per state is to be a non-motorized entry. (people power only) • Entries can be any size suitable for maneuvering through the parade route at the Big E. The parade route is about one mile long and has an upgrade hill ¾ of the way along. (remember you have to get your float to and from the fair) • There is no theme for this year but the word GRANGE needs to be on the float using 4 inch letters.
• Entries must be on the fairgrounds by 9:00 a.m. Grange Day Sunday Sept. 26. Floats will be on exhibit on the lawn of the Grange building from 9:30 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. at which time they will be moved into position at the start of the parade route. • The prize money will be awarded to the Youth and/ or Junior Committee of the State Grange. 1st- $200; 2nd- $150; 3rd- $100 All other floats will receive $50 for participating. • Floats will be judged by a panel of three designated by the Big E staff. Anyone wishing to participate, contact the State Master so that arrangements can be made for the Connecticut trustees to determine which float will represent Connecticut. |
