| SEPTEMBER 24, 2010 -- Chicks and ducks and geese had to scurry today as Michelle Obama led U.N. spouses for a walk on a country farm in Connecticut.
Mrs. Obama, wearing a silk dress designed by Tracy Feith, invited 39 spouses of the heads of government to The Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture , 25 miles north of New York city.
Spouses were from The African Union Commission, Albania, Andorra, Bangladesh, Cameroon , Colombia, Congo, Ivory Coast, Cyprus, Dominican Republic and Commonwealth, Estonia, Ethiopia, Haiti, Honduras, Kenya, Kiribati, Laos, Latvia, Macedonia, Malawi, Malaysia, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Norway, Panama, Palau, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Turkey, Uganda, United Nations and Vanuatu.
After touring the grounds, the ladies went inside for lunch. The first lady used the moment to address the women about her healthy-eating initiative. "Many kids may never learn that ketchup comes from a tomato and french fries from a potato," Mrs. Obama said. "Because they're disconnected from the food they eat."
And then Mrs. Obama related a story about how daughter Sasha had been a tomato-phobe — until she made her own tomato, mozzarella and pesto sandwich in a cooking class at school, reports AP. "Do you know those hair tomatoes?" she asked her mother, referring to heirloom tomatoes, Mrs. Obama recounted. "Now those are good tomatoes!"
Mrs. Obama said Sasha is now a tomato fan. "We can do that with our children," she added. |
