Connecticut Receives Near $2 Million Forest Grant

By Hartford Courant (9/12/10)

  OCTOBER 2, 2010 --

Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell says the state has received almost $2 million in federal grant money to preserve state forests.

Rell announced Saturday, September 25, that the U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded the state $1.97 million to fund programs that will protect Connecticut's 139 state parks and forests.

Rell said the money will go toward programs that aim to stop the spread of forest-harming diseases and insects, like the Asian longhorned beetle.

She said it will also be used to buy open space, train firefighters to battle wildfires and allow communities to purchase firefighting equipment and supplies.
