| FEBRUARY 21, 2011 -- Once again there are four locations for the New England Dairy Conferences scheduled in March, 2011. Cooperative Extension in New England and the Dairy Practices Committee are working jointly to organize these conferences. Each location will have its own local program and trade show, along with a featured speaker. This year’s featured speaker will be Dr. Robert Graves, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA.
Dr. Robert E. Graves is an internationally recognized expert on dairy cattle housing, manure handling and treatment systems, milking equipment, and milking centers. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts.
At Penn State, he is responsible for developing educational programs and materials on dairy systems, manure handling and composting. He has worked in these areas since 1965 as a university faculty member, extension agricultural engineer, dairy farmer, and engineering consultant. Since coming to Pennsylvania in 1982, he has worked extensively with producers, government officials, and researchers on issues related to dairy cattle housing and well-being, quality milk production, manure handling and treatment and regulations. He brings applications and field experience based perspective to the team.
Dr. R. Graves is a Director of the Buildings and Equipment Task Force of the Dairy Practices Council; member of the American Dairy Science Association and the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. During past years, Dr. R. Graves received many awards from different Agricultural Engineering organizations. He is also an author of numerous papers on dairy barn design, special needs cows facilities, and methane digesters and biogas utilization.
The conference will be held in four different locations. These dates and locations include:
* Monday, March 14: UCONN, Storrs, Connecticut – Bishop Center for Continuing Education
* Tuesday, March 15: Waterville, Maine – The Elks Club
* Wednesday, March 16: Whitefield, New Hampshire – Mountain View Grand Resort
* Thursday, March 17: West Lebanon, New Hampshire –Fireside Inn & Suites
