| JANUARY 27, 2011 -- Virginia (Bassett) Gracy passed away on Jan. 23, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Woodbury Aug. 20, 1931, and was the daughter of the late James G. Bassett and Laura (Griswold) Bassett. Ginny was employed at Southbury Training School for 24 years, teaching piano lessons and working and caring for the residents who live there. She was a member of Pomperaug Grange No. 185, Waterbury Oratorio Society and South Britain Congregational Church. In her younger years, she was a member of the All State Chorus from Woodbury High 1949 and Girl Scouts.
Ginny is survived by her sister, Alma Gray of Blue Hill, Mass.; and her six daughters, Cynthia and Ken Butler of Waterbury, Deborah and Larry Rodriguez of Vernon, Janet and Bob Giroux of Brunswick Mass., Melissa and Brendan Egan of Dedham, Mass., Jessica Digiavoncarlo of Waterbury, and Jennifer Gracy of New Milford. She has 12 loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Ginny's many activities included singing for many weddings and funerals, and directing the South Britain Choir for many years. Her handmade baby sweaters and mittens were given as gifts and sold at the church fair. Ginny was a member of many committees at South Britain Church, being an active member for more than 30 years. She also was an active member of the Hospice group at the Southbury Training School.
Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at the Southbury Munson Lovetere Funeral home, 235 Main Street North, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at South Britain Congregational Church. Burial will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury.
