| MAY 20, 2011 -- Students enrolled in high schools across the state with agricultural programs will convene Saturday to celebrate the 82nd Connecticut State Future Farmers of America Convention.
The yearly convention celebrates the culmination of a year's worth of work for the more than 2,600 FFA members across the state. On Saturday, more than 500 students, parents and friends are expected to gather at Ledyard High School.
The day's events include membership awards, competitions, workshops and a silent auction.
Twenty-four high schools in Connecticut have agriculture and agriscience programs. The national program - a youth leadership organization for students enrolled in agricultural education programs - was chartered in 1930.
Students involved in the programs explore careers that include animal science, natural resources, agriculture mechanics, plant science, agribusiness and more.
Convention participants will have a chance to meet National FFA Officer Shannon Norris and attend a workshop with the Kentucky State FFA president. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and state Rep. Tom Reynolds, D-Ledyard, are also scheduled to attend.
Ledyard High School is at 24 Gallup Hill Road. Convention hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
