| AUGUST 4, 2011 -- Our meeting on June 8 was an evening of reminiscing and remembering those who had gone on before us to the Great Grange above. Chaplain Anne-Marie Knochenhauer presented an impressive memorial service. Flowers were placed on the altar in memory of each member lost. Then several members regaled us with memories of long ago.
There was a discussion of where to hold our annual picnic. Bluff Point in Groton is the chosen site. There are hiking trails lined with beach plums and red and white shore roses that wind along scenic Long Island Sound, a picnic area with grills available, and restrooms. if you are a birder, bring your binoculars. Over 200 species have been sighted in the area over the years. There is also a boat launch if you ahve a kayak or canoe you want to throw on the car. So pack your picnic lunch (don’t forget plates, cups and utensils) and join us at Bluff Point on August 27th.
The September 12th meeting promises to be casual. For the small fee of $2.00 you may wear your favorite t-shirt to the meeting. This is a fundraiser for the Pomona. It’s a good time to show your team spirit. Go Sox! (Yankees! Patriots! Bruins! Steelers! etc., etc., etc.)
It’s time for the picnic! Say hip, hip, hooray!
It promises to be a most wonderful day!
We’ll eat lots of goodies then go for a hike,
Go birding, play games, or whatever you like! |
