| AUGUST 20, 2011 -- Three Eastern Connecticut farms were rewarded more than $50,000 in renewable energy grants through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program, officials announced Friday.
Hebron’s Mapleleaf Farms received $11,449, while Whispering Winds Farm in Canterbury and Stonington Vineyards in Stonington each got $20,000.
The program allows small farms and rural businesses to invest in the development and implementation of renewable energy systems to help offset rising electricity and utility costs.
The sites in Canterbury and Hebron will use the funds for solar projects. Stonington Vineyards plans to invest in an array of improvements to energy systems on the property. |
