Wanted: Trumpet Girls |
| |
MAY 2008 --
The National Grange Hosting Committee is looking for Trumpet Girls. What are Trumpet Girls? The trumpet girls perform a dance during the Seventh Degree conferral and 9 girls and 2 additional alternates are required. We hope to have one girl from each of the seven states in the Northeast Region. Additional girls will likely come from Connecticut to fill out the required number of 9, plus 2 alternates. The requirements: 1) Girls must be of average height (5’0” to 5’9”) and capable of performing a very rigorous dance, are needed to serve as trumpet girls for the Seventh Degree Conferral. The alternates are also required to attend all rehearsals and the degree conferral in case replacements are needed in the event of illness or injury of any of the nine girls performing. 2) National Grange has white tights and flat white ballet slippers, sizes five through nine. if any girls have smaller or larger feet, they should secure their own flat white ballet slippers. Girls with smaller or larger feet are asked to secure their own flat white ballet slippers. 3) Trumpet girls should arrive at the theatre on Thursday morning, and , after a costume fit and and orientation, they will begin practicing. There will be several practices Thursday and Friday. They must be present for the full cast rehearsal early Saturday morning and, of course, the actual conferral Saturday afternoon. 4) They must learn the dance in just a few rehearsals. They will be given several run-throughs. The dance lasts less than three minutes, but it is very rigorous. Therefore, the practice times will be spaced apart. 5) They must not be planning to participate in any other events at the National Convention or otherwise, contests, workshops, tours, etc. that would conflict with rehearsals or the degree conferral. They cannot participate in either the Fifth or Sixth Degree conferrals. They must be either Seventh Degree members, or Sixth Degree members with an application for this Seventh Degree conferral. If they are holding applications for this conferral, they need to bring them along and give them to us, so that we can have their applications properly processed. If taking the degree now, they will be expected to view the degree as much as possible during rehearsal times. 6) They should bring along a shirt or blouse that fastens in the front for use during lunch times and off-times after make-up and costume Saturday morning. 7) A woman who is not participating in the drill needs to be assigned as the trumpet girl manager who will: be responsible for their getting to the rehearsals, the conferral, and back to their hotel; be at the rehearsals with them and have them where and when we want them; help arrange for their meals; and look out for their general well-being, not only while at the theater, but also throughout their designated time at the session. If you are interested, or know someone who might be interested, in being a trumpet girl or the Trumpet Girl Manager, please contact Stare Master Bob Sendewicz at (203) 744-1656 or Convention Coordinator Jody Cameron at (860) 564-7614 for more information.
