Around The Grange
Hillstown Grange Fair to be held September 8th

By Frank Forrest

  AUGUST 27, 2012 --

The community is invited to the Hillstown Grange Annual Agricultural Fair to be held on Saturday, September 8, from 9 AM to 2 PM.  The Grange Hall is located at 617 Hills Street, in East Hartford.

The public is encouraged to enter their needlework, flowers, crafts, hobbies, vegetables, jams, jellies, canned goods and bake goods.  Cash prizes are awarded to winning entries.

This year‘s special contests are for the tallest 'Crackerjack Marigold plant' (please cut off at ground level) and the best 'Connecticut Field Pumpkin.'

Items for judging must be at the Grange by Friday, September 7th, between 5 and 7 PM. Entry forms will be available at the Grange.

Our famous hot dogs and hamburgers with peppers and onions will be available from 11 AM to 1 PM along with other tempting foods.  The bake sale usually runs out of pies by noon, so be sure to arrive early to purchase a homemade pie.  We will have homemade jams, jelly, and relishes along with our baked goods.

Our Junior Grange will be holding a kids activity corner and a Lemonade stand to raise funds for their upcoming field trips.  Also planned is a book sale and an outdoor tag sale.

The Hillstown Grange Fair is the community's only Agricultural Fair, serving the towns of East Hartford, Glastonbury, and Manchester.
