The legislative program of the Connecticut State Grange supports the interests of rural and suburban Connecticut at the local and state levels of government. The Grange's legislative posture is based on over 125 years of continuous concern for the problems of rural and suburban communities in a rapidly changing economic and social environment.
The Grange is very protective of its non-partisanship in the public forum. Thus, this positive force is used by the Grange in its approach to legislative matters and in its discussions of Grange legislative positions. Grange policies draw upon a historic strength, which in changing times, has emerged to address the needs of the traditional family unit.
The Grange legislative policies are "Community Grown". Members ideas are passed along to their Community and Pomona Granges as resolutions. These are then forwarded to the State Grange for consideration.
The State Grange Legislative Committee reviews the resolutions passed by the delegate body at the State Grange Session. Those that involve legislative issues are communicated to the Connecticut General Assembly. The Connecticut State Grange Legislative Handbook is an important tool used to relay the Grange's position on issues as determined by the delegate body. The Legislative Handbook is distributed to every member of the Connecticut General Assembly as well as all Pomona, Community, and Junior Granges in Connecticut.
Grange members are encouraged to read the Legislative Handbook. The committee will communicate to the Granges on active issues throughout the year. This will be either through the Granger or newsletters to the Pomona Grange chairman. Pomona Chairman are asked to pass this information on to the Community Granges within their Pomona. Members are encouraged to contact their local Representatives or Senators to support Grange positions on issues.
