Cannon Grange hosts Scavenger Hunt to raise money for spinal cord research

By Wilton Bulletin Staff, Wilton Bulletin (8/30/12)

  AUGUST 30, 2012 --

More than 100 people working in teams will be scouring the town and surrounding area on Saturday, Sept. 1, as part of the 2nd Annual Great Wilton Scavenger Hunt to benefit Kennedy's CORD Foundation. The hunt will begin at 1 PM at Cannon Grange on Cannon Road. The winner will be announced and a trophy awarded at 6 PM.

Last year's scavenger hunt raised more than $17,000 for pediatric spinal cord research. Organizers expect this year's scavenger hunt will raise even more money with additional opportunities to donate through a silent auction, commemorative T-shirt sales, and food and beverage tasting stands. The crowd will be entertained by the Wilton band One Bad Oyster.

"We heard from so many parents that the event was an incredible bonding experience with their kids, and also how much they learned about Wilton's rich history," said Jeff Snyder, board member of The CORD Foundation and father of 12-year-old Kennedy, who has suffered with a spinal cord tumor known as astrocytoma since the age of two.

"It is amazing how the entire Wilton community has rallied around our daughter's cause. Their passion to help find a cure for Kennedy is nothing less than inspirational." The event organizer is Lori Smith. "As a pediatrician, finding a cure for pediatric cancers is such an important cause to me," she said. "Kennedy is an amazing kid and I am thrilled to be able to help contribute to spinal cord cancer research." The deadline to sign up is Saturday, Aug. 25, and there is a $250 tax-deductible fee per team to play. Points will be given for each scavenger item collected and creativity points will be awarded for the best team costumes. The team with the most points will receive prizes and a trophy.

Those wishing to make a donation, volunteer, or sponsor the event should email info@greatwiltonscavengerhunt.com .
