Colchester Grange thanks Volunteeers

By Submitted by Colchester Grange

  OCTOBER 8, 2012 --

We would like to thank all those who help the Colchester Grange #78 raise funds and manpower to support the American Legion Veterans Housing project in Jewett City, Connecticut.

June 11, 2012 a ribbon cutting ceremony was held and the $6.26M project was dedicated for the first of its kind in the country providing living space for homeless veterans.  Bill Czmyr had a dream and worked over ten years to make a dream come true.  A refurbished building will be the home to homeless veterans.  The facility will house 18 residents and they will have continual support as they start a new life.

Many people made a commitment to help with the project and the Colchester Grange thanks those who helped provide funding to outfit one apartment and to support a second unit.  Thanks to Colchester American Legion Donald Bigelow Post #54, Colchester AARP #4019, Colchester Grange #78, St. Andrew Ladies Guild, Harrington Court Health Care, Skyview Realty and Area Realty Association, North Stonington Grange #138, Norwich Grange #172, Stonington Grange #168, Susan D., Jeff W., Cathy R., Polly L., Marion and Kathleen C., Preston City Grange #110, for sharing their financial resources.  Thanks to the energy of several volunteers, the bathroom was outfitted with supplies, the bed was made and special accents were put in place, the kitchen was ready for someone to cook after the dishes and special equipment were put in place.  The living room was made picture perfect for a tenant to move into.

Special thanks to all our veterans who protected our freedom, our country, and our rights.
