July Musings from Winchester Grange

By Todd Gelineau, Winchester Grange President

  JULY 8, 2013 --

What a great day we had for our annual Strawberry Festival on Father’s Day!  Over 400 shortcakes were served during 2-1/2 hours!  As has become the custom, the new Laurel Queen Devisha Patel attended the event along with first runner-up Emily Owens and second runner-up Mackenzie Russo.  All three cheerfully served up the Strawberry Shortcake to the long line of eager customers.

A very unusual event comes to the hall and the green this month with the Iceland Experience-- local radio personality Geri Griswold is organizing this event which will highlight the food, farm animals, customs and much more about the country of iceland.  See the article about it in this issue for more information.

Torrington’s newest ice cream parlor, S&S Sweet Treats has invited Winchester Grange/Jr. Grange to participate in a fundraising event on Tuesday, July 30 from 4 to 8 P.M.  Members of the Grange will serve the ice cream while others will talk to guests about Grange and have lots of fun along the way.  S&S is located on Main St. in Torrington, just a few doors down from the Nutmeg Conservatory and the Warner Theatre.  Stop in and have some great Hershey’s Ice Cream with us!

Plans are moving ahead for our annual Grange Fair and Flea Market on the Green and in the Hall on Saturday, August 10.  Vendors for the Flea Market are coming in strongly and we are hoping for a full Green and an even more competitive group of exhibits for the baking, vegetable and fruit judgings!  Stop by for a gourmet hot dog at Café 74 and buy a book or two at the giant book sale!
