Around The Grange
Mountain Cty. Pomona February 2014 News Update

By Todd Gelineau

  FEBRUARY 5, 2014 --

Mountain County gets back into the swing of things in February with a regular meeting on the 11th.  It’s been a while – our December meeting was canceled due to ice.  The program for the evening has been changed slightly.  There will be a brief skit prepared by Maggie and Lin followed by a School of Instruction by the State Master and General Deputy.  We hope the weather will be a bit “warmer” by then and there will be a full hall for this meeting.

A large mitten and hat tree was constructed at the recent National Grange Convention in Manchester, New Hampshire.  This tree was over 12 feet tall and was covered with hundreds of hats and mittens donated by Granges and Grange members throughout the Northeast Region and the rest of the country.  At the close of the convention, the tree was dismantled and the hats and mittens were divided between the seven State Granges in the host region.  As a result, Mountain County received a large box of these donations.  As the December meeting was canceled, it was felt that these donations should get out as soon as possible.  The box was divided between VERY grateful recipients at Forbes School in Torrington, FISH of Torrington and the Open Door of Winsted.  The schools was especially thankful as many kids have been going to school with nothing on their heads and hands in this bone chilling weather.  We could have donated many, many more to help fill the great need.
