Cannon Grange Silent Movie Night March 29th
  MARCH 5, 2014 --

Film enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend a night of classic silent movies with live piano accompaniment hosted by Cannon Grange on Saturday, March 29th at 7:30 PM.

Enjoy a double-feature with the 1928 Charlie Chaplin classic comedy “The Circus” and the 1922 film “COPS” starring Buster Keaton.  Noted silent film historian and pianist John Mucci of Wilton will play an original live score accompaniment on the Grange’s early 1900-vintage piano.

“The Circus” has Chaplin's Little Tramp character being chased by the police when he runs into the open tent of a circus that is performing in town, and his antics are funnier than the real circus performers, meaning he is a big hit! The ringmaster hires him to be a regular part of the circus, where the Tramp meets the Ringmasters daughter and falls in love with her, only to have fate take its course and change everyones life by the end of the film.

With a climax of Chaplin performing a high-wire act with monkeys on his shoulders, this is truly one of Chaplin’s most exciting film, filled with laughter.

One of Buster Keaton’s early one-reel comedies, “COPS” is both hysterically funny and a nightmare of pursuit, as Buster tries to become a businessman to impress his girlfriend. As he is bilked by shysters and even sabotaged by an Anarchist, he suddenly finds himself on the wrong side of the law, and is pursued by a policeman -- then two-- then four -- then something more than two hundred as they chase him through town.  It's one man against the system, which Buster bravely faces, then takes his results back to his girlfriend... whose dad happens to be the mayor!

Plan to arrive early for best seating, and spend the entire evening laughing at the antics and stunts of these actors. The films are perfect entertainment for children and adults alike.

Mucci, a member of Cannon Grange, has been accompanying silent films since 1972, and has been acclaimed as "bringing the silents back to life" and providing "hair-raising experiences" during the many chase scenes to delighted audiences.

Admission is $6 per person, or 2 persons for $10 for adults and students, which includes refreshments.  Cannon Grange Hall is located at 25 Cannon Road in Wilton, with free parking available at the Grange Hall, Cannondale Village and at the Cannondale Railroad Station.
