Around The Grange
Wallingford Grange News for July

By Daniel M. Lauttenbach

  JULY 6, 2014 --

May 15th- The meeting originally scheduled for May 8th was postponed to May 15th.  This meeting was primarily a business meeting.  We discussed our recent Pancake Breakfast that we had on Sunday May 4th. We had served 34 paid customers and a family of 5 in need. We had a great day and had some fun.  We discussed a list of things that I had noted that needed attention on the hall itself.  These items were the side vestibule door, window sashes upstairs, the front gable window, a broken window in the anteroom upstairs and some of the light bulbs needing replacement.  Also the roof is leaking in the rear of the hall.  We also need to remove the left over items from previous tag sales.  Outside clean up: cut the lawn, cut down vines on the chain-link fence and remove the leaves and put flowers around the hall.  We also discussed our fair ads that we have gotten so far and it appears we are doing well.  Need to get boosters.  Maybe do a silent auction, do face painting and get a fire truck in for a few hours.

May 22th – Fred Arrue of Wells Fargo was our guest speaker who talked about Identity Theft.  Fred first talked about what is identity theft and how thieves are typically getting information about you.  He also talked about ways to minimize your venerability to identity theft. Use on-line banking; this is because your mail in your mailbox can be stolen by thieves or get a post office box to prevent mail theft. If you bank on-line, be sure to keep your Window’s and Virus-scanning programs updated.  Be carefully of any personal information, such as mentioning your mother’s maiden name, you put on social media sites such as Face-Book.  Do not respond to any e-mails that are supposedly from your bank.  Banks don’t communicate with you by e-mail for account information, etc.  This also goes for the IRS; the IRS uses the US mail.  Make copies of the contents of your wallet; so if it gets stolen, you have information on hand to cancel credit cards or to get your driver’s license.  Don’t put your Social Security card in your wallet.  Get a copy of your free credit report to be sure that everything in it is correct at AnnualCreditReport.com.    Other sites: FTC.gov and IdentityTheftAssistance.org.

July 10 – Annual Picnic at the Grange Hall at 6pm.  Bring a covered dish.  Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Soda will be furnished. Please feel free to bring family or friends.
