Granby Grange News for November

By Vivian Shaw

  NOVEMBER 16, 2014 --

Granby Grange now has a van that is handicap accessible with Granby Grange #5 written on the sides.  Our bus driver is Roseanna Smith.  Seventeen members attended our meeting/lunch at the Windsor Locks Restaurant.  We recently had a trunk or treat on Oct. 24 with pizza at 7:00 P.M. with a community dance.

Next meeting at the Grange hall will be in November with a chicken or turkey dinner.

Granby Grange recently lost a long time (over 75 years as of MAR 2011) member on 24 SEP 2014 as Hazel Joan Geotjen went to meet the Master of Master.  In her more than 75 years as a Grange Member, Joan had held many positions, including Master of the former Farmington Valley Pomona and the former Tunxis Grange #13..  Services were Sunday 28 SEP at the Carmon funeral home on Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor between 4:00 and 7:00 PM.

Granby Grange #5 recently held a sale of fall flowers (Asters and Chrysanthemums), in cooperation with Flower Power Farm of East Windsor.  Most of the plants were preordered by patrons and friends and were provided on consignment by Flower Power.  The event was managed by Treasurer Carol Innes with a very large assist from Master RoseAnna Smith, Chaplain Shirley Stulpin and Pianist Frances “Frannie” Brockett.

Granby Grange #5 continues to meet on the second Tuesday each month for lunch a the Pizza Parlor Restaurant in Windsor Locks, and a full business meeting with occasional suppers at the Grange Hall on the second Friday each month.  Average attendance has been 15 on Tuesdays and 13 on Fridays.

Granby Grange #5 has recently placed a 9 passenger bus in service to assist handicapped and wheel-chair bound members in getting to meetings, to the Big-E and to other functions and events, including church on Sundays.  All 9 seats –plus the driver’s seat were occupied on the trip to the Big-E Friday 19 SEP and the members took turns staffing the quilt raffle table and helping where needed with the closing clean-up.  The repeat trip on Friday 26 SEP only carried 6, including 1 wheelchair-bound.
