Meriden Grange June News Update

By M. Harrison

  JUNE 3, 2015 --

I am happy to report that as I write this it is almost 80 degrees, thank goodness Spring is here. We have started a bit of planting here in Meriden. In our garden we have planted peas & turnips and at our Grange Hall, Mike has started his lovely sunflowers. It is always a treat to see which variety he has chosen for beautifying the grounds.

Our Grange members Bob, Mike, & Larry have been busy fixing & cleaning up. We look forward to having a wedding at the Hall this month. My Mother has donated a punch bowl for the event. We are busy planning our 130th anniversary open house which is set for June 7th. Come join us, our archives will be available for study and we have invitited the Meriden Historical Society. A great opportunity for geneologists.

Our teddy bear drive for S.A.F.E. has 64 bears at the most recent count. We are looking for any homeless bears that would be a comfort for children at risk. No rips, stains or smells please.

We are pleased to report that Meriden Grange hosted the 3rd & 4th degrees in April. We had a potluck before the degrees and a good time was had by all. It was a pleasure to meet the newest Granger from Southington, Jeremy.

My best wishes for a great Memorial Day weekend. We have a road trip planned for and the question is: will we drive in Larry’s car which has over 300,000 miles? We have lovingly nicknamed it after a beloved Granger.

Our meetings for June will be on the 12th & 26th, hope to see you there.
