Around The Grange
Colchester Grange News for September

By Bonnie Trecarten

  SEPTEMBER 18, 2015 --

We were pleased to welcome several guests at our July 13th meeting.  We were joined by Ted Beebe, Master of Norwich Grange and State Membership, Ann Marie Knochenhauer, Master of Groton Grange, Lecturer and CWA for New London County Pomona, and Co-chair State Youth Committee, Lois Evankow, Lecturer for Lyme Grange, and Flora for East Central Pomona. We were also joined by George Rood who played the piano for us and helped us upgrade our singing to almost good! Thank you George! We appreciate Ted, Lois and Ann Marie’s contributions to our meetings. And welcome back to Carol Bourque.

Donations have been made to Bacon Academy Scholarship Funds, and to Camp Berger among others. Always rewarding to give to give our support when we can.

Leonard Farm has donated 60 lbs of vegetables to our senior center food services so far this season and the fresh produce is very appreciated.

Congratulations to Cathy Russi for her decorated flower pot entry win, and to everyone who entered.

The Grange sponsored hayrides at Zagray Farm in June were very successful and enjoyed by many. Thank you to Chris Bourque for  donating his time and the hay wagon.

Plans were made for our donation to the Pomona Raffle and our annual picnic at Leonard’s Farm in August.

Something to remember for all Grangers regarding buying produce locally. Our local farmers work very hard to provide the best possible cheeses, vegetables and fruits for our communities and we need to support them by purchasing locally whenever possible.

Any travelers out there don’t forget to contact our CWA representative Cathy Russi for trip information.

Hope everyone stays cool and enjoys the rest of summer.
