Beacon Grange mourns loss of Shirley Hazelton
  JUNE 13, 2010 --

Mrs. Shirley Annette (Warner) Hazelton, widow of Harland Hazelton, died Thursday, June 10, at Waterbury Hospital.

Mrs. Hazelton was born March 9, 1931, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Lewis P. and Charlotte (Salmon) Warner Sr., and lived in Thomaston for most of her life. She was a graduate of Thomaston High School and received her nursing degree from Coit Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. She had served on the nursing staff of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for 13 years and had also worked at Doyle's Convalescent Home in Thomaston.

She was a lifelong member of the Plymouth Congregational Church and the Beacon Grange of Northfield. She had been active with the Thomaston Senior Center and was an avid reader. She offered her assistance to family, friends and seniors whenever needed, and was well known for her love of children.

She is survived by a son, Mark Hazelton of Iowa; a daughter, Roberta Spielman of Terryville; two grandsons, Daniel Spielman II and Michael Spielman, both of Terryville; two brothers, Lewis Warner Jr. and Robert Atha Warner, both of Thomaston; four sisters, Mildred Edwards of North Carolina, Sallyann Gladych of Morris, Allie Bassett and Christine Banks, both of Thomaston; several nieces and nephews including Robert Warner Jr., Cindy Sanford and Lorie Suckley, whom she helped her brother Robert raise for many years; and her nephew, Kyle Warner, who was a great help to her on a daily basis.

Arrangements: Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Plymouth.
