Membership News: As The Health Crisis Continues

By Faith Quinlan, CT State Grange Membership Director

  September 1, 2020 --

In the midst of social distancing, quarantines, and lockdowns, our members are in great need for social connection and community. Some members really need a way to overcome the isolation of physical distancing. Grangers are itching for social contact beyond our family, friends, and supermarket cashiers we see from a 6-foot distance. People want for community right now.

It’s a good time for our members to experiment with ways communicating with other members online. It can be intimidating but.. no one has this all figured out. No One! I am happy to schedule an informal gather online for your Grange. Just a test run for you all to see how it works with no pressure to make decisions, yet.

Members serving in our Community Granges and Pomona Granges may have more  time on their  hands  to  learn  new technology and communicate with each other. Whatever the hesitancy is about meeting online, via phone or when possible to meet socially distanced outside, the fact is, Grange business cannot be put on hold. Decisions must be made to keep things moving.

Beyond catching up and checking in there are really important decisions that will keep your Grange in operation. There is so much I can do to help but I need to know what you need.

If I get feedback saying people are interested in having a informal “Virtual Meetup” where we can just socialize with friends across the state, try out Zoom, and learn how it works, and/or if you’re daring, what features you might want to try, I would be happy to host the event.

Our membership was struggling before COVID19 closed things down. Not meeting to discuss your Grange business and work out the needs it may have, will only make the situation more difficult.

For the sake of ourselves, our Grange and the Order let us all get a little uncomfortable. Let us try something new. I know our 7 Founders had to get uncomfortable to  start such an amazing organization. Let us show that we are able to continue their mission. I am here as a patient and supportive friend who wants  to help in whatever way I can, please contact me and it will be my pleasure to help in whatever way I possibly can.
