Around The Grange
December 2022 News from Riverton Grange No. 169

By Dave Roberts

  DECEMBER 12, 2022 --

Just  a  reminder   that   our next Riverton Grange meeting is scheduled for Friday, December 16, at 7:30 PM via ZOOM. (Remember, our members voted to hold monthly meetings via Zoom for December, January and February). If you do not ZOOM, Sister Dawn will be at the Grange Hall each month to get you connected on the large screen TV there. I will send out the Zoom code prior to the meeting.

The reason that our meeting is moved two weeks out is that this weekend is Christmas in Riverton and I am so pleased the large role being played by Riverton Grange. Riverton Grange hall will be the starting point for the luminaria lit Wine Walk through the village from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Attendees will pay and pick up their wine glasses at the hall and then proceed to eight stops in the village over the three hour period. They will then return to the Grange Hall to turn in their ticket with eight stamps (one from each stop) and be entered to win one of 15 great prizes.

Riverton Grange will also be host to the annual Festival of Trees with proceeds  again  supporting the Pleasant Valley Community Food Pantry. We hope to have lots of decorated trees for attendees to select their favorite. Attendees can vote with either non-perishable food items or purchased script. They can also enter to win one of these beautiful trees. Last year, we raised over $1,000 and LOTS of non-perishables for PVCFP.

Finally, I  wanted  to  update you on our efforts to revitalize our neighbor, Granby Grange #5.  Four of our Riverton Grange members (Judy Doyle, Jackie Martin, Natalee Roberts and myself) are joining Granby Grange as affiliate members. In addition, we have helped recruit at least 14 new members for their Grange working with Carol Innes and Ron Cowdrey. New members will be  voted  in on Friday, December 9, at 6:00 PM, and Brother Peter Keefe will obligate new members and install new officers (8 of their 13 officers will be new!) on Sunday, January 15th, at 2:00 PM at the Granby Grange Hall at 212 N. Granby Road in North Granby. All of you are invited to witness this remarkable Grange rejuvenation right in our backyard!
