Around The Grange
July News from Riverton Grange No. 169

By Dave Roberts

  JULY 1, 2023 --

July 2: Honoring our Vet. of the Month, Barkhamsted Sr. Ctr., 6 PM July 4: Barkhamsted Ind. Day Parade, 10:30 start, be in place by 10 A.M.

July 7: Meeting & Program, CWA Program. Ref. Dawn & Rode Anstett On Friday, June 2, Riverton Grange met and received an update on our Hall Renovation Project. The front porch will be restored, and missing vinyl siding pieces will be replaced utilizing the ARPA funds received from the Town of Barkhamsted. Judy Doyle informed us that a grant proposal for the NW Comm. Foundation for funds to repair and renovate our historic hall did not make the initial round but may be considered later in the year. New member Chris Wright was thanked for repairing our back door with his excellent skills.

We also held our election of officers who will be installed on September 15.

While sorting through the 1,000+ donated flags donated for retirement, a 48 star American flag was found and donated to the Shannon-Shattuck American Legion Post #182. This flag was flown on July 3, 1959, prior to the admission of Alaska and Hawaii into the Union. The flag was in good condition and organizers of the flag retirement felt it should not be retired. Due to the demand, Riverton Grange is offering this ceremony twice a year open to the public, once around Flag Day and once around Veterans Day.

The 34th Annual Riverton Grange Fair will be held on Aug. 19 from 10 to 2., free to the public. Entries can be submitted online, by mail, or in person. Deadline is Aug. 15. Juniors are also welcome to exhibit. Visit our website https://rivertongrange.org  or contact our Fair President Judy Doyle at msjudysemporium@yahoo.com.
