August 2025 News from North Stonington Comm. Grange

By Nancy R. Weissmuller

  AUGUST 1, 2025 --

The first meeting in August has been changed due to the 4H Expo being on the grounds on the second weekend (but do come to the fair and enjoy the food and all the animals).  Heads up, men!  You bring the refreshments that night!

Election brought some changes to our Grange officers.  Our new Secretary is Dick Tarryk, who took over for our former Secretary who has held the office for over 50 years.  She thanks Dick from the bottom of her heart.  All of us who have been Secretaries know that this office can be one of the most challenging and one of the most difficult to fill.  Please come to a meeting and meet the new faces.

The annual picnic, with master chefs Jeff Barnes and Mike Riley at the grill flipping the burgs and dogs, enjoyed pleasant weather (a welcome change from the sweltering heat earlier in the week).  The delicious sides brought by members were enjoyed by all.  This year we were pleasantly surprised by the addition of a box of deliciously ripe tomatoes donated by new member Joe LoPresti (and delivered by the Tarryks).  Each of us went home with a bag full of the best tomatoes east of the Mississippi (probably farther than that!).  Thank you, Joe (and Camilla and Dick).  Another pleasant surprise was being serenaded by Dick on the harmonica.  (I was hoping for his accordion, but the harmonica was great!).  We are most happy to have the Tarryks added to our membership!  And if this darn “Climate Change” will just give us a little break from these 100 degree temperatures, next time we will tell you all about joyous July.

Aug. 1:  Korea- For the Second time (Men have refreshments)

Aug. 22:  The Cold War (Ladies have refreshments)
